About guide

Knowing Paris inside-out comes with years of exploring, but above all a passion for discovering all the magic that a city has to offer. Our city guides are selected for their insatiable love for Paris, and their desire to share it with our visitors. Leaving no stone unturned, our guides are always ready to go the extra mile to ensure that those who explore with them get to discover the Paris that truly makes them tick.

Highlights

Watch your literary heroes spring to life during this small group, walking tour through the historic heart of literary Paris. You’ll summon the spirits of literature’s greatest talents, all of whom lived here and perfected their craft by observing the city’s street life and romantic intimacy.

You’ll relive those moments as you retrace their inspirations throughout the Left Bank, pausing to hear enlightening tales of their lives, their loves, and occasionally…their lunacy.

The itinerary

Meet outside the Café de Flore, the legendary café located in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. You’ll continue through the Rive Gauche, the stomping grounds of Lost Generation personalities like Gertrude Stein, Ernest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald, incarnated by Montparnasse, the Luxembourg Gardens. Moving on to the intellectual heart of the city: the student quarter around the Panthéon, for a quick musical aside alongside Josephine Baker, and the Sorbonne, Paris's historic university. You'll then end your tour at the much-celebrated Shakespeare & Company.

F.A.Q.

Can I request a tour that focuses on a specific author or literary movement?
We’ve designed a general itinerary that covers several authors: Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein to name a few. However if you’d like to learn about one or several writers in particular, such as French writers & poets, James Baldwin, Simone de Beauvoir or George Sand for instance, or a literary movement such as the Surrealists and Existentialists or the Philosophers, we’re happy to design a custom made private tour for you. Simply get in touch with our client service team. We can even take you on a tour of Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris if you wish!

What if my friends and/or family aren’t quite as nutty about books as I am?
Not a problem, our guides are happy to adjust the tour to all levels of interest to keep it fun and accessible for your entire group. We’re also taking you through a breathtaking part of Paris that is sure to impress and entertain everyone involved.
